Why go Elsewhere
Elsewhere was born after the OGL thing big banged and the 5e SRD was released to Creative Common. It started as me theorizing about the possible direction the game could take after 5e fatigue and before I knew it, I had a skeleton of a system.
Tabletop rpg's and especially those that follows the D&D tradition can be played in a lot of different ways, all legitimate. Elsewhere reflects the way I like to play the game, so there are a few very explicit design choices: "Fiction First", "Ruling, not Rules" are the basics, along with the player (not the character or the die) having a complete monopoly on the decision making process: exploring, deducing, coming up with a plan and making a decision. The only function of the die is to simulate chance, it should never play instead of the player.
Those design principals are strongly associated with OSR games. However, unlike the spirit of most them, I like long character focused games and the ability to mechanically customize your character. Also, I don't mind some complexity in the system as long as the gameplay is streamlined.
The results of all of this is Elsewhere. Over the years I have discovered that I usually know in advance exactly how my homemade rules will play when I'm running the game with my regular players. The real test of the system is where others run and play it.
So, the bottom line is that Elsewhere is hungry for playtesting and feedback. If you believe in what Elsewhere wants to be, I really need your help.
Thanks, and enjoy !
